Preview the collection : The velveteen Rabbit

I’m sharing a little behind the scenes of a new collection of work debuting this month with The Scouted Studio .

I’m thrilled to be included in this group show with so many talented artists. The collection launches on The Scouted STudio’s site February 6th. Keep scrolling to read about the ideas behind the work…

In this collection of work a Rabbit goes on a journey to be Real. Drawing inspiration from the storybook worlds of The Velveteen Rabbit and Goodnight Moon an adventure unfolds, moving from a vibrant interior steeped in nostalgia to the enchanting magic of rabbits dancing beneath the moonlight. Stories and myths from childhood have a way of shaping the way you see reality, and I loved the idea that a singular rabbit inhabits and moves through many of these classic stories. Most important to the work is the thread that carries through The Velveteen Rabbit - anything once loved is alive and Real.

“There once was a velveteen rabbit, and in the begiNNING he was really spLendid".

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day.

This collection has 11 paintings both on paper and on canvas. Canvases are framed in a gold floater frame, creating a lovely finished look that is ready to hang. Works on paper are float framed (this means the unique, deckled edges of the paper are not covered by a mat) sitting on a cream colored, linen mat. Each frame is gold with an antiqued look that felt so right for this collection that plays on a sense of nostalgia and loved objects.

“They were rabbits like himself, but quite furry and brand-new".

“The nursery magic had happened to him, and he was a toy no longer. He was Real.”

“ But he never knew that it really was his own Bunny, come back to look at the child who had first helped him to be Real.”

All quotes are from The Velveteen Rabbit written by Margery Williams

The collection will be available exclusively through The Scouted Studio’s website on February 6th. See you there!
